27: Half-Term Arrives

Day 3: 31 May
The expected storms never arrived, so the kids could paint all afternoon
- triangles galore!

Day 2: 30 May
A Dry Day! Two groups of 5 kids came down to help from Youth First today and the tunnel is looking so much better (well two-thirds).

Day 1: 29 May

So, after a glorious sunny weekend really appropriate for the arduous task of applying fungicidal wash – to the tunnel green bits, and a strenuous brush throughout in 25 degrees to get rid of any loose matter – the weather has turned feral, typical.

Today, the first day back with Youth First in the half-term and we were met with a day of downpours, with lightning and thunder to add to the mix. I was so impressed that they wanted to come and paint anyway, so we painted the dry bits white, sheltered by the tunnel. They are amazing young people! Cassell even picked me up for forgetting to brush down the wall before starting to paint.

Pedestrians have enjoyed the sign.

A pre-brush/wash down trouble spot, it was not that different after to be honest. I think the paint will stay for a bit – like the test bricks, but it just won't last like the rest. They are permanently wet areas, but everyone knows this and at least it'll be more colourful. One issue is that the surface drank the paint like crazy. I may be forced to simplify the arches design further to stay on budget.
